Independent and captive agencies

An independent agency can work with more than one insurance company. A captive agency generally represents one insurer or insurer group. This directory covers independent retail agencies.

We use the agency's own explanation of its business and the companies it represents. A list of company appointments alone is not proof of independence: company names may belong to the same insurer group. Unclear cases stay unpublished pending review.

Independent does not mean every insurance company or policy is available. Ask an agency what it offers and check current licensing. This directory does not rank agencies or recommend coverage.
